Digital transformation of the psychology sector.
Digital Transformation of the Psychology Sector: Therapy Support System with Artificial Intelligence Technologies (DIPSY-AI).
Digital Transformation of the Psychology Sector: Efficient Sensing and Processing of Physiological Features (DIPSY-TECH).

The main objective of the project is to develop a multi-platform system that enables the digitisation of the psychological sector, integrating artificial intelligence-based algorithms to streamline and personalise therapy. The joint research will focus on the efficient pre-processing of text samples, physiological signals and voice recordings to extract the most significant features related to expressed emotions. The purpose is to provide additional information to psychology professionals to improve their therapies. A customised, low-cost wearable device will be designed, focused on the requirements demanded by the psychological sector. The monitored physiological signals, together with voice recordings and text samples, will be used to develop artificial intelligence-based predictive models to enable continuous patient monitoring and integrate it into a cross-platform application. To address the computational complexity of the system, the use of heterogeneous processors will be investigated to maximise performance.
The DIPSY project, coordinated by two sub-projects, DIPSY-AI and DIPSY-TECH, developed at the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia (UPV) and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), respectively, focuses on the digitisation of the psychological sector through the application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. Mental health is a priority, especially in current times, and the project addresses the challenges and limitations in traditional psychological care.
With one in four individuals affected by mental disorders in their lifetime, and considering the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health globally, the demand for psychological care has increased. However, the limited number of psychologists compared to the number of patients and the low rate of digitalisation of the sector create pressures and saturation. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), the most widespread, is hampered by traditional methods of recording experiences, thoughts and emotions on paper, which reduces adherence to therapy and increases the time spent on analysis.
DIPSY addresses this problem by proposing a multi-platform, AI-based system that enables the comprehensive digitisation of the therapeutic process. The aim is to provide psychologists with relevant information in an efficient way to improve and personalise therapies. The system will use AI algorithms to analyse text, physiological signals and voice recordings, providing a deeper insight into the patient’s mental state. The inclusion of AI modelling will enable significant optimisation and personalisation of therapy, supporting an automated real-time monitoring and evaluation service.
The project aims to overcome sector saturation, lack of detailed patient information and low digitisation through an end-to-end solution. The proposal includes digitisation of patient records and diaries, integrating physiological signals and voice analysis for more accurate diagnosis and more efficient treatment. In addition, DIPSY anticipates future negative emotional states and generates warning alarms for specific situations, thus improving the anticipation and effectiveness of therapy.
This innovative approach, which uses cutting-edge technologies in artificial intelligence, will not only optimise time and resources, but also open up new possibilities for personalised and continuous psychological care. DIPSY presents itself as a comprehensive and pioneering solution, addressing the digitalisation of the psychological sector and the incorporation of advanced AI techniques to improve the quality and accessibility of psychological care in today’s society.
